Udai Sagar
Udai Sagar Lake is one of the oldest and most historically important lakes close to Udaipur, constructed by damming the Berach River, which is a tributary
of the Banas River, and so on. Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur, built the lake in 1559. It was the Mewar rulers who initiated a larger
water management system that included the lake and its dam to cater to their agriculture, settlements, and defense needs.
The conflicts between the Mewar kingdom and the Mughal forces were events in which Udai Sagar played an important role over the centuries.
The lake and its dam allowed water control and thus a strategic advantage to the region. Today, the significance of Udai Sagar is not only historical
but also scenic landscape and tranquil atmosphere; thus, it becomes a destination for tourists wanting to see Udaipur’s early history and nature’s beauty peacefully.
