Amba Mata Udaipur
The Amba Mata Temple is a shrine of Udaipur’s ancient and mythical Goddess Amba, a rare version of Durga, thus the name ‘Amba Mata Temple’.
According to the legend, the temple was constructed in the 16th century, well before the city of Udaipur was established, and meanwhile, the
Mewarites still deem it very important spiritually.
The temple, which can be reached easily from the Ambamata neighborhood, enjoys a steady stream of visitors throughout the year and its
colorful and beautiful inner chamber has made it very well-known too. Navratri is the festival that brings the temple to life and the whole place is so
busy with the lights and festivities going on, that it can be hard to imagine the temple precincts are closed for the night! The Amba Mata Temple is a
prime spot for tourists who want to experience the deep-rooted devotion of the locals, see the traditional ceremonies, and learn about a major part
of Udaipur’s religious and cultural history.
