Saas Bahu Temple
Saas-Bahu Temple, with the more official name of Sahasra Bahu Temple, is a premier temple complex dedicated to Hindu god and goddess,
located near Nagda in the vicinity of Udaipur about 22 km far. In the year 1000, it was constructed by King Mahipala of the
Kachchhapaghata dynasty and at that time it was primarily for worshipping Lord Vishnu. The temple did not fulfill the part of a
mother-in-law and daughter-in-law despite its popular name; “Sahasra Bahu” denoted Vishnu, which means “the one with a thousand arms.”
The temple gained fame for its delicate stone carvings, elegantly sculpted pillars, and gorgeous ceilings, which later on became
the very first representatives of the new style of Indian architecture called medieval. Even though it has been partially destroyed today,
the beauty of the art remains to a great extent. The Saas-Bahu Temple is a great site for visiting tourists who come there not only to see
ancient craftsmanship and get a glimpse of the early Rajput-era history but also to enjoy a quiet heritage site away from the city crowds,
hence making the place a rewarding stop for history and architecture lovers.
