Eklingji Temple, the holy and important temple of Mewar, is situated almost 22 km away from Udaipur city. The temple was built in the 8th century by
Bappa Rawal, the first King of the Mewar dynasty, and it was devoted to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Ekling Mahadev.
The Mewar kings consider Eklingji as their deity and consequently, they govern the kingdom in his place.
The temple complex has more than 100 shrines, which are either stone or marble, thus allowing exhibiting the best carvings and temple architecture
of the classical period. At the heart of the sanctum lies a unique four-faced (chaturmukha) Shiva lingam which stands for the four gods namely Brahma
,Vishnu, Mahesh, and Surya. People come to Eklingji Temple in large numbers due to its great spiritual importance, old architecture, and peaceful atmosphere
,hence it becomes a must-see place for those who are keen on Mewar’s religious and cultural treasures.
